Don't Buy a
Home...............
without having an Energy Rating &
learning about the Energy Efficient Mortgage
Q. What is a home energy
rating?
It is a method of documenting and quantifying energy efficiency information so that valid
comparisons about energy costs and usage can be made.
Q. How are the Ratings done?
A certified Energy Rater will do
an extensive survey using the latest in high-tech equipment to collect data about the
efficiency of the heating and cooling systems, the integrity of the duct system and the
tightness of the thermal envelope.
What are the steps?
You along with your Realtor
schedule the rating.
- The Rater conducts an on-site energy survey of
the home.
- Data collected from the survey will rate the
homes energy efficiency, project utility costs and give suggested improvements.
- Your loan will include the cost for
improvements (up to $8000) and you have up to 90 days after settlement to complete the
work.
- The Rater inspects the work for satisfactory
completion....and your savings begin!
